8 SABBATS IN A YEAR
BELTAINE
THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER AND THE SACRED UNION OF THE GOD AND GODDESS
Ist November - SH
1st May - NH
The beginning of summer.
On this day it is the sacred union of the God and Goddess. This is a fertility festival and on this day
it is custom to fill baskets with fertility symbols like eggs, nuts ect... Weaving of the maypole is custom as this is
also a symbol of fertility. We also
celebrate fertility in nature. This is a
traditional time for handfastings (marriages).
It is also a time for cleansings.
In ancient times, on this day, large bale fires were build as a form of
cleansing. It is a time to focus on new
beginnings and the beautiful growth around us. This is where 'jumping the
bonfire comes from''. Newly weds would
jump the bonfire as a symbol of starting their new life together. It is the beginning of summer. Usually on
this day there is a Beltaine ritual and the next day a picnic with the whole
family taking part in the maypole and other activities.
THINGS TO CELEBRATE
1. Build a bonfire
2. Make May baskets. Get some construction paper and roll it into cones fastening each one with a piece of tape or a staple. Make handles with strips of paper or pieces of ribbon. Gather early wildflowers like violets and fill each basket.
3. Watch the sunrise. Pack a picnic breakfast and to to a place to watch the sun rise
4. Make a flower feast! Freeze edible flowers in ice cubes. Add edible flowers to your salad.
5. Create your own maypole. Purchase a twenty foot wood pole. Set it up in your backyard. Ask your guests to each bring a 2 inch by 20 foot ribbon and attach them when they arrive. Everyone grabs their ribbon, and the dancing begins.6. Bake an oatmeal cake6. Dance around the maypole
7. Make bon fires and dance around the bon fire
8. Jumping the broom...specially if their is a handfasting being done
9. Weave flower strings
10. Choose a Beltane King and Queen

BELTANE SPELLS
Beltane Love Potion
WHEN USING THIS POTION REMEMBER NOT TO TAKE AWAY ANOTHERS FREE WILL. DO NOT US IN A MANIPULATIVE MANNER.
This Potion would best be made under the full moon before Beltane
.
What you will need:
Cast your circle in a place outdoors (or, indoors, hopefully next to a window with a view of the Full Moon.) If bad weather/cloudy skies present an obstacle, use a candle flame instead.
Holding a bowl or chalice full of pure spring water, catch the reflection of the Moon (or candle flame) within. Call to the Goddess Aphrodite, or any other diety that represents Love to you, to send Her Divine Essence flowing into the water with the moonlight. Concentrate on what perfect Love means to you and instill your own essence into the water by blowing gently upon it.
Next, add rose petals and buds to the water. Add a crystal that you´ve held up to the moonlight and consecrated to a Goddess of Love. A touch of rose or jasmine absolute would be nice but not necessary.
Pour your water into a beautiful decanter and add an equal portion of Vodka to seal the Potion. Keep this Potion in a dark space out of the sunlight - for the magickal properties of the Night to remain potent.
Use this potion to annoint candles and magickal writings - Love Spells. Use it like a perfume to attract a perfect love to you. Add a few drops to your own drink for the same effect, and naturally, we don´t recommend using this Potion in any manipulative manner.

OSTARA
SPRING EQUINOX
21 September - SH
21 March - NH
Ostara also known as Eostre. On this day the night and the day are equal. It is the time of spring and fertility. Now is the time to sow seeds and plant seedlings. Everywhere flowers are seen popping up and showing us their beautiful faces. Trees are getting their leaves back and the green sprouts are seen all over. It is the rebirth of all that died in the cold of winter. Magick is happening in front of our eyes. Spring is the time to make room for new beginnings.
The rabbit is a symbol of fertility as is the egg. There is the story of the Goddess and the hare. One day at the beginning of spring, the Goddess Ostara felt bad because she was responsible for bringing spring each year and this year She was late. As She stood looking, She saw a little bird dying in the snow, She felt so much compassion for him as he could not fly with his frost damaged wings. She picked him up and cradled him in her hands, then the Goddess seeing that he will not fly again, turned him into a rabbit, a snow hare and She named him Lepus. She blessed him with a gift to be able to run at very fast speeds, so that he can avoid the hunters. To honour the fact that he was previously a bird, She gave him the ability to lay eggs in all colours of the rainbow, but he could only lay eggs 1 day a year. One day the Goddess Ostara lost her temper with him and She flung him into the skies where he would remain for eternity as the constellation Orion. Sometime later, remembering all the good times they had together, the Goddess softened and allowed Lepus to return to earth one day each year but only to give away his eggs to the children attending the Ostara festivals held each spring and that is how the rabbit and eggs became part of the spring equinox.
THINGS TO CELEBRATE
1. Have a traditional breakfast of buns, eggs and ham
2. Plant seeds in the garden or in pots
3. Boil eggs and dye them all sorts of colours with food colouring and eat them
4. Take a long walk to look and enjoy nature
5. Play music associated with spring
6. Have a picnic out side to celebrate spring.
7. Create and put out bird feeders

OSTARA SPELLS
Rejuvenation Spell by Walter L. Mora
This spell will help to renew your spiritual self as the Earth does every Spring. You will need the following materials:
*a small black candle and a small white candle
*medium sized yellow or green candle - if you can find one shaped like an egg, even better!
*a spring wreath to fit around the candle, either hand-made or bought at a craft store
*sandalwood incense
*your favorite essential oil - a scent that reminds you of Spring
*parchment paper
*a black pen and a gold-ink pen (you can find them at your local discount or crafts store like Micheal's)
*an ashpot, couldron, fire-proof container
First, break the parchment paper in half. Use the black pen to write on one sheet and title the page "BE GONE." With the black pen, write all the habits, feelings, situations, etc. that you want to get rid off. Use the back if you need more space. Place this negative list under the candleholder or votive of the black candle.
Second, take a nice bath or shower and cleanse yourself of any negative vibrations. Visualize the water washing over your body and taking away the black cloudy grime that surrounds you to reveal a brilliant white glow. After the bath or shower, anoint yourself with the essential oil and dress yourself in white comfy garments or skyclad if you prefer.
Third, return to your work space and now take the other sheet of parchment paper and with the gold pen title it "REBIRTH." With the gold pen, write all of those things you want to better in yourself, change for the positive, goals you desire to accomplish, etc. Make positive, active statements and void comments like I should, would, wish, hope or anything with negative connotations. This is your positive list so fill it with vibrant positive energy. When your list is complete, place the list under the candleholder or votive of the white candle.
Fourth, light the black and white cande and the incense. Take the incense holder and walk around your space three times clockwise. Situate the incense holder. Take the negative list from under the black candle and use its flame to set it afire and throw it in the ashpot, etc. As you do this say:
What once was will never be.
I'm making room for the new me.
Be gone, Be gone!
So mote it be!
Fifth, after the negative list is burnt to a crisp, take the positive list from under the white candle. Now here is where you need to be quick and steady. (If you feel you can't do this that is fine and work your way around it.) Set the positive list aflame with the white candle and immediately use the burning list to light your egg (or yellow, green, etc.) candle and throw the burning paper in to the ashpost, etc.
Sixth, after this envigorating event, look at your egg candle and say the following words:
Let me feel, let me see,
Now reborn in positivity.
As I hatch into Spring,
Let all good things now come in.
In perfect love and perfect trust,
With harm to none,
So mote it be!
Lastly, gaze at your candle for a moment and meditate if you wish. When your ready, take the ashpot outside and throw the ashes to the wind, making sure it doesn't come back into your house!. After that, make sure to snuff out the candles when appropriate. Go get something to eat and begin to enjoy your renewed self!

IMBOLC / CANDLEMASS
WE REJOICE IN THE RETURN OF THE SUN
2 August - SH
2 February - NH
MEANING OF IMBOLC
The Goddess now slowly turns the wheel to spring and we celebrate this time to rejoice in the warming up of the waxing sun. The Maiden Goddess awaits the return of her lover, the Sun God. As the heart is seen as a love symbol, it has long been a symbol of Imbolc as Mother Earth awaits the return of the Sun. This association was later used on the day of St. Valentines day where young maidens awaits the coming of a young lover.
This day is also called Candlemass because of the tradition of lighting as many candles as possible to celebrate the growing warmth of the sun. The Sun God is still a baby but growing. Winters hold on the earth is loosening and we can see greenery starting to sprout once again. This is the time for new beginnings.
THINGS TO DO TO CELEBRATE
1. On this day we light as many candles as possible and even mark our circle with candles.
2. Fill paper bags half with sand, put a candle in each bag into the sand and arrange it around the circle.
3.This is a day to spend outside and to have a picnic.
4.Dream pillows can be made beforehand and handed to each other.
5.This is also a day to collect magickal stones. Collect stones, without knowing what they are and find out what they are and their uses afterwards.

Whisk the remaining cream until it holds its shape. Unravel the cake, spread the cream over the top, scatter over the crushed mints, if using, then carefully roll up again into a log.
- Cut a thick diagonal slice from one end of the log. Lift the log on to a plate, then arrange the slice on the side with the diagonal cut against the cake to make a branch.
- Spread the icing over the log and branch (don't cover the ends), then use a fork to mark the icing to give the effect of tree bark. Scatter with unsifted icing sugar to resemble snow, and decorate with holly.
You can leave the mints out if you prefer a more traditional filling.

Once you've filled your ornament, place the two halves together. Tie a colored ribbon around the center to keep the halves from separating (you may need to add a dab of craft glue for stability) and then hang your ornament in a place where you can see it during the Yule season.

YULE SONGS
PAGAN SILENT NIGHT
Silent night, Solstice Night
All is calm, all is bright
Nature slumbers in forest and glen
Till in Springtime She wakens again
Sleeping spirits grow strong!
Sleeping spirits grow strong!
Silent night, Solstice night
Silver moon shining bright
Snowfall blankets the slumbering Earth
Yule fires welcome the Sun's rebirth
Hark, the Light is reborn!
Hark, the Light is reborn!
Silent night, Solstice night
Quiet rest till the Light
Turning ever the rolling Wheel
Brings the Winter to comfort and heal
Rest your spirit in peace!
Rest your spirit in peace!
Hark the neo-Pagans sing
Hark the neo-Pagans sing
Glory to the Holly King!
Peace on Earth and mercy mild,
God and Goddess reconciled,
Hear us now as we proclaim,
We have risen from the flames,
Our ancient Craft now we reclaim,
In the God and Goddess' names
Hark the neo-Pagans sing,
Glory to the Holly King!
Herne by highest love adored,
Herne the ever-reborn Lord,
At all times behold Him come,
Offspring of the Holy One,
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see,
Hail Incarnate Deity!
Our ancient Craft now we reclaim,
in the God and Goddess' names
Hark the neo-Pagans sing,
Glory to the Holly King!
Silver Bells Words
by Hilda Marshall
Tune: "Silver Bells"
City sidewalks, busy sidewalks
Dressed in holiday style
In the air there's a feeling of giving
Children laughing, people passing
Meeting smile after smile
And on every street corner you hear...
Silver bells, silver bells
Yuletide returns to the city
Ring-a-ling, hear them ring
Chiming the winter away
Strings of street lights, even stoplights
Blink a bright red and green
As the shoppers rush home with their treasures
Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch
Eyes as bright as their dreams
And on every street corner you hear
Silver bells, silver bells
Yuletide returns to the city
Ring-a-ling, hear them ring
Chiming the winter away
A HOLLY JOLLY YULE TIDE
Have a holly jolly Yuletide
It's the best time of the year
I don't know if there'll be snow
But have a cup of cheer
Have a holly jolly Yuletide
And when you walk down the street
Say hello to friends you know
And ev'ryone you meet
Oh, ho, the mistletoe
Hung where you can see
Somebody waits for you
Kiss her once for me
Have a holly jolly Yuletide
and in case you didn't hear
Oh, by golly have a holly jolly Yuletide
This year!
Oh, ho, the mistletoe
Hung where you can see
Somebody waits for you
Kiss her once for me
Have a holly jolly Yuletide
and in case you didn't hear
Oh, by golly have a holly jolly Yuletide
This year!
Oh, by golly have a holly jolly Yuletide
This year!
Mother Berta's Coming to Town You better watch out when winter comes nigh
You better not doubt, I'm telling you why
Mother Berta's coming to town
She carries a sack made out of skin
She dumps the toys out and stuffs the kids in
Mother Berta's coming to town
She rides on Master Skeggi
A Goat whose back is strong
Her beard is grey and scraggly
And her tail is ten feet long!
With six or eight horns, a moustache or two
Make a mistake, she's coming for YOU!
Mother Berta's coming to town.
She knows with whom your sleeping
She knows with whom you wake
She knows each thought you're thinking
So don't THINK! For Goddess sake
So when the winds howl way up in the sky
Listen as she and Skeggi pass by
Mother Berta's coming
Mother Berta's coming
Mother Berta's coming
Mother Berta's coming to town
Wiccan Joy to the World
Mother of all to you we sing
In praise this glorious morn
For Earth and Sky
Fire, Water and life
In You we are reborn
In You we are reborn
In You
In You
We are reborn
Welcome our King
Who brings us life
Our Lady gives him birth!
His living light returneth
To warm the seeds within us
And wake the sleeping earth
And wake the sleeping earth
And wake
And wake
The sleeping earth
Light we the fires
To greet our Lord
Our light, Our life, Our King
Let every voice be lifted
To sing His holy praises
As Heaven and Nature sing
As Heaven and Nature sing
As Heaven
As Heaven and Nature sing
Joy to the Earth
The light returns
And sunlight fills the air
The tide has turned
The Sun has been reborn
And hope is everywhere
And hope is everywhere
And hope
And hope is everywhere
Dark ruled the Earth
And death has reigned
But on the wheel does spin
From out the womb of night
Is birthed the infant light
The Sun has come again
The Sun has come again
The Sun
The Sun has come again
Glory to the New Born Sun
Lady Moon to you we sing
For the love and joy you bring
Peace and Love and mercy mild
Lord and Lady reconciled
Joyful are we here tonight
Watching the start of
Love’s first light
Joyful do our shouts proclaim
The sun is born to shine again!
Lady Moon’s labor has begun
Glory to the new born Sun
Apollo, Inti,Ra and Lugh
We have come to worship you
Shining down from heaven above
Showering us with your love
Bring us now the gift of light
Guiding us and burning bright
Joyful do your shouts proclaim
The sun is born to shine again!
Lady Moon cradles her new son
Glory to the new born Sun!
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history! You know Dasher Dancer Prancer and Vixen
Comet Cupid Donner and Blitzen
But do you recall the most famous reindeer
Of all
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
"Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"
Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you'll go down in history!
JINGLE BELLS
Dashing through the snow
in a one horse open sleigh Over fields we go
laughing all the way
the bells on bob-tail ring
They make our spirits bright
what fun it us to ride and sing
a sleighing song tonight
jingle bells, jingle bells
jingle all the way
O what fun it is to ride
In a one horse open sleigh x2
A day or two ago
I thought I’d take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright
was seated by my side
the horse was lean and lank
misfortune seemed his lot
he got into a drifted bank
and we, we got upsot
jingle bells, jingle bells
jingle all the way
O what fun it is to ride
in a one –horse open sleigh X2
Now the ground is white
So go it while you’re young,
take the girls tonight
and sing this sleighing song
just get a bob-tailed bay
two forty for his speed
Then hitch him to a open sleigh
and crack! You’ll take the leed
jingle bells, jingle bells
jingle all the way
O what fun it is to ride
in a one –horse open sleigh X2
Christmas In Killarney
(Cavanaugh / Redmond / Weldon)
as performed by The Irish Rovers
VERSE:
The holly green, the ivy green
The prettiest picture you've ever seen
Is Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home
It's nice, you know, to kiss your beau
While cuddling under the mistletoe
And Santa Claus you know, of course
Is one of the boys from home
The door is always open
The neighbors pay a call
And Father John before he's gone
Will bless the house and all
Our Hearts are light, our spirits bright
We'll celebrate our joy tonight
Is Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home
REPEAT VERSE
We'll decorate the Christmas tree
When all the family's here
Around a roaring fire
We will raise a cup of cheer
There's gifts to bring, And songs to sing
And laughs to make the rafters ring
Is Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home
REPEAT VERSE
Music
REPEAT VERSE
We'll take the horse and sleigh all
Across the fields of snow
Listening to the jingle bells
Everywhere we go
How grand it feels to click your heels
And dance away to the jigs and reels
It's Christmas in Killarney
With all of the folks at home

Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer
Grandma got run over by a reindeer
walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa.
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
She'd been drinkin' too much egg nog.
And we'd begged her not to go.
But she'd forgot her medication,
and she staggered out the door into the snow.
When we found her Christmas mornin,'
at the scene of the attack.
She had hoof prints on her forehead,
And incriminatin' Claus marks on her back.
Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
but as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
Now were all so proud of Grandpa.
He's been takin' this so well.
See him in there watchin' football,
drinkin' beer and playin' cards with cousin Belle.
It's not Christmas without Grandma.
All the family dressed in black.
And we just can't help but wonder:
Should we open up her gifts or send them back?
(Send them back)
Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
walkin' home from our house Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
But as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
Now the goose is on the table.
And the pudding made of fig.
And a blue and silver candle,
that would just have matched the hair in Grandma's wig.
I've warned all my friends and neighbors.
"Better watch out for yourselves."
They should never give a license,
to a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves.
Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
walkin' home from our house, Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
but as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
(Sing it Grandpa)
Grandma got run over by a reindeer,
walkin' home from our house, Christmas eve.
You can say there's no such thing as Santa,
but as for me and Grandpa, we believe.
Merry Christmas
"Santa Claus Is Pagan, Too"
by Emerald Rose
Oh, Santa Claus is Pagan too, just like all the rest,
And if you are a merry Witch he'll bring you all the best,
So get that star up on the roof, and bake those cookies, too,
Caus Christmas-time is really Yule, and Santa's Pagan too!
He's got that Buddha belly and his top's the Holly King,
You dressed him in that British coat, the cap's a Nordic thing,
You took the horns right off his head and stuck them on his deer,
But he still flies high like Jupiter with a belly-full of beer!
Hey!!
Oh, Santa Claus is Pagan too, just like all the rest,
And if you are a merry Witch he'll bring you all the best,
So get that star up on the roof, and bake those cookies, too,
Cause Christmas-time is really Yule, and Santa's Pagan too!
Now history says Christ was likely not a Capricorn,
But if you want to share our Yule, we don't care when he's born,
Come celebrate the dawning of Sun King's bright rebirth,
And if you practice what you preach, we'll all have peace on Earth!
Hey!!
Oh, Santa Claus is Pagan too, just like all the rest,
And if you are a merry Witch he'll bring you all the best,
So get that star up on the roof, and bake those cookies, too,
Cause Christmas-time is really Yule, and Santa's Pagan too!
Now Santa's way more jolly than most Christians might require,
And if he weren't so busy he'd be dancing 'round this fire,
Yeah, you can call it Christmas 'cause you got us way out-gunned,
But just you wait till Beltaine then we'll see who's having fun!
Hey!!
Oh, Santa Claus is Pagan too, just like all the rest,
And if you are a merry Witch he'll bring you all the best,
So get that star up on the roof, and bake those cookies, too, x2
Cause Christmas-time is really Yule, and Santa's Pagan too!

THE FINAL HARVEST/SUMMERS END/
HALLOWEEN/DAY OF THE DEAD
30 April - SH
31 October - NH
The Goddess mourns the death of the Sun God. On this night the God passes over between the worlds. This marks the end of summer and the beginning of winter. On this night the veil is at it's thinnest and the gateways between life and death is therefore open. This is a time to commune with and honor the dead.
Some Witches use a chant at the beginning of the Feast to welcome their ancestors.
Chant:
And so it is, we gather again,
The feast of our dead to begin.
Our Ancients, our Ancestors we invite, Come!
And follow the setting of the sun.
Whom do we call? We call them by name
(Name your ancestor that you wish want to welcome.)
The Ancients have come! Here with us stand
Where ever the country, where ever the land
They leave us not, to travel alone;
Flesh of our flesh, bone of our bone!
Grandmothers, Grandfathers, Great be their Power!
Past ones and present-at this very hour!
Welcome within are the dead who are kin,
Feast here with us and rest here within
Our hearth is your hearth and welcome to thee;
Old tales to tell and new visions to see!
Chant:

MABON
AUTUMN EQUINOX
March 21-23 SH
Night and day are again of equal length and in perfect equilibrium. Mabon, the counter part of Ostara the Spring equinox.
The Sun's power is waning and from now on the nights grow longer and the days shorter and cooler. The green of summer is changing to the fire of autumn.
This is the Second Harvest, known as the Fruit Harvest and the Great Feast of Thanksgiving.
The Goddess is radiant in her beauty as Harvest Queen and the Sun God is dying with His gift of pure love, with the cutting of the last grain. He will return once again.
The grain harvest is safely gathered in from Lammas, the first First Harvest and reaches completion.
We now enjoy the abundance of fruit and vegetables with the Second Harvest and it is time to thank the waning Sun God for the wealth of this harvest bestowed upon us. Giving thanks for the abundance we have.
Here are a few items you can use to decorate your Mabon altar:
Herbs: Acorn, ferns, grains, honeysuckle, marigold, rose, sage tobacco, thistle
Incense: Sage, Myrrh
Colours: From flaming reds, oranges and golds to greens, yellows and browns.

Ingredients:
· 2 cups whole wheat flour
· 2 cups bread flour, plus more if needed
· 1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
· 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
· 2 1/2 teaspoons salt · 2 cups milk, scalded
· 3 tablespoons smooth peanut butter

How to make it:
Mix all the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Add the peanut butter and the honey to the hot milk and stir to combine. Cool milk mix until it reaches 115ºF. Stir milk mix into flour mix.

Let it rise in a warm spot until double. Punch down, then shape into 2 rectangle loaves, one large wreath, or “man” shape.
Let rise again until doubled. Bake at +/- 180c until golden; it should make a hollow sound when tapped.
You should get 1 large or 2 regular-sized loaves

Lammas Protection Spell
Use crystals or stones with magical properties, such as Hematite to create a barrier around your home.
Put a piece of Hematite at each outside corner of the house.
Stand in the middle of the house, take your wand, athame or even your finger if you do not have these items and starting at the east and ending once again at the east, draw a line to connect all the crystals. (Turning anti-clockwise for the Southern hemisphere and clockwise for the Northern hemisphere)
Visualize a protective bubble around your house that can not be penetrated by any evil or negativity. Thank the powers that be and know that your home is protected.
